We got a bit of a late start because it was a little windy and we wanted to see if the wind was going to build. We finally left about 7:00 am and a nice flat ride

We saw two blue whales on our way to Catalina- so incredibly beautiful!
We were anchored by 3:30 pm. And take a look at the water temperature!!!
We went for a dinghy ride around the anchorage and saw a first - a seaplane tethered behind a boat!!
Also ran into friends from Ventura - Bonne Brown and her fiance Dick:
For dinner - grilled flap steak and tomato, avocado, corn & red onion salad:

We spent the morning tidying up, getting ready for the kid's arrival tomorrow. I went for a swim to cool off and not long after I got out of the water a 8 foot hammerhead shark swam by the boat!! Too surprised to take a picture - darn! I must admit I immediately Googled hammerhead and learned it was very rare for these sharks to attack humans - still was a little apprehensive to jump back in!! Very hot weather so we put up the Mexico canvas for a little extra shade - and we needed it!

Sarah, Jeff & Marco were on the 6:15 am Catalina Express boat so John ran the dinghy into Avalon to pick them up.
Sarah & Marco couldn't wait to jump in:
They were having so much fun they almost forgot to head back to Avalon to pick up Grammy!
We had a late lunch of cold cuts and then spent the afternoon in the water. The water felt so great that we forgot all about the hammerhead shark that had visited yesterday.
Bonne & Dick came over for Happy Hour. Dinner was a repeat of last night's meal. It tasted even better with family around the cockpit table!

Yesterday afternoon a boat anchored a bit too close to us. The apologized and offered us some Yellowfin Tuna that had caught that day - a 2 1/2 pound hunk!! John grilled some of the tuna for Pam and himself and the rest of us had sushi. Marco ate four rolls!!!!
After lunch Marco caught a mackerel that Jeff used to catch a halibut:
We spent the rest of the afternoon playing in the water.
Marco jumped off the upperdeck for the first time this year!

Sarah, Jeff & Marco took Pam to Avalon to catch the Express boat back to the mainland. While they were there they rented a golf cart and stayed for lunch:

We moved the boat to Avalon and hooked up to a mooring:

We went ashore for lunch at Steve's Steakhouse. Sarah & Jeff stayed ashore and went on the Casino tour while Marco & I made macaroons:

Sarah & I went shopping in Avalon and Jeff & Marco went golfing - Marco's first time playing nine holes on a regulation course.
We all met at the Sandtrap for lunch - John too!

Friday-Sunday, August 7-9, 2015
We had breakfast burritos before Sarah, Jeff & Marco had to head back to the mainland. David and his friend Jack arrived on the same boat that SJ&M were leaving on.
We stayed at Avalon for a couple of more nights before heading back to White's.
The boys had a great time swimming, kayaking, snorkeling and playing cribbage.

We received news that Laura was in the emergency room with a collapsed lung. Abrupt change in plans - John took the boys into Avalon to catch an early Express boat back to Long Beach. I had the boat sea-proofed by the time he got back to the anchorage and we took off for Ventura at 7 pm. It was a long trip - 10 hours- and a bumpy one but we were happy to be back home to be with Laura.
