The marine weather forecast was for high seas and we almost postponed our cruise for a couple of days. We were so glad we didn't because we had one of the most beautiful rides ever. And as an added bonus we saw six grey whales! A terrible whale picture but you can see how calm the ocean was:
8 1/2 hours later we arrived at a the nearly empty harbor - look at all the vacant moorings this time of year:
We were, once again, on a mooring next to King Neptune. Here are the two Gods of the Sea -Neptune (Roman) and Poseidon (Greek):
Mike and Linda had arrived aboard Cazadora a couple of days earlier:
We enjoyed a Happy Hour cruise:
My paternal grandparents honeymooned in Avalon in 1924 and my family has always felt a close bond with this beautiful island. The bond grew stronger with childhood visits and cruises on our boats with family and friends. John and I were married here and we were thrilled when our daughter Sarah and son-in-law Jeff decided to have their wedding here too. We have especially enjoyed sharing the island with our grandchildren over the last twenty years.
When my grandmother died we had these bricks placed in Avalon's Park of Love in my grandparent's honor:
The day after we arrived our friends Lee & Linda aboard Stanhaven pulled into the harbor. They used to keep their boat on our dock in Ventura and it was really nice to see them again.
It was also great to have Linda join me on a couple of my walks. Linda is six feet tall so I really had to hustle to keep up with her long stride. Here we are at the top of the Wrigley Memorial:
And some more pics from my walks:
New Year's Eve Day thick fog rolled in, but otherwise we had beautiful weather for the entire trip:
John and I wish everyone a very Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year!
